Jennifer Cleary from Beech GroveIn celebration of MyselfI am a 4 time survivor at the age of 35. I began battling breast cancer at the ripe old age of 26. My first 2 year remission anniversary was 2/21/2010! This is my 4th year walking. I join a group of survivors from St Vincent's oncology every year. I have a 13year old daughter who is absolutely paranoid of getting breast cancer and that breaks my heart, however I have decided to try and teach her to be appreciative and respectful of the cancer by having her walk with me every year. She sees those there walking for those that are not and it that makes her appreciate that I made it. She sees those that are still fighting there walking, smiling, and surrounded by no strangers and I hope that gives her the sense to respect the disease. I walk because 26 was not a "statistical" age to begin my fight. I walk because those that walked for me may need me to some day down the road. But mostly I walk because I am fortunate enough that others have been walking for years which has allowed me to be cancer free for 2years. The difference between my 1st lumpectomy and my last battle using only hormone therapy is unreal! In 9 years the fight against breast cancer went from an 18in scar from top to bottom, to a pill and light weekly dose of herceptin. There is a God....and he wears PINK! And I thank him every day for this walk and for making others aware that we are not statistics in this fight....we are stories.

Wendy Madon from Southport, INIn celebration of My AuntI am walking for my aunt Wannie, she lives in Tennessee. She was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 43. She found a lump right before it was time for her to go for her yearly mammogram. All her mammograms had always been normal. It was a shock to her and the whole family. Within months she was having a masectomy and while having surgery the drs. decided to do a double masectomy. After months of chemo and the devastation of losing her hair, she pulled through. She is cancer free for 3 years now. I am walking for everyone else in our family and everyone in the world, in hopes that we can find a cure and no one else has to go through the devastation that this cancer brings.

Brittany Schmidt from Indianapolis, INIn celebration of Pam Miltner (The best Grandma! My grandma is the best and she has been a 16 year survivor and a 16 year volunteer on the Susan G. Haleigh developed a passion for Breast Cancer Awareness at the age of 8 and participated in her first walk in 2007! I am grateful that my daughter shares this passion with me and has learned so much about Breast Cancer at such a young age! Our grandmother is a strong woman and we are thrilled that we are able to participate in honor of her!

Heather Hale from Greenwood, INIn celebration of My Mammaw TennesseeMy great grandmother, Millie, passed away just last year of this terrible cancer. She was diagnosed just two years before that. She had her left breast removed and the doctors thought the cancer was gone...little did they know, it would spread to her lungs and kidneys. She was 94 years old and lived a great life but died such a painful death. She was a great woman and will forever live in my heart. This is for you, Mammaw Tennesse! I WILL NEVER FORGET YOU AND WILL LOVE YOU ALWAYS:)

She is currently in Texas where she is getting radation and eventually chemo and on top of all this she might not graduate from north central with us and may have to stay back with the freshmeat (who won't graduate according to the mians) she also listened to ur show while she was here and is the one who got me to start listening too
Barbara Carson from Indianapolis,INIn celebration of My Friend Joel NoelJoel became a good friend of mine within the past two years and even though he is no longer here, the memories of him are with me everyday. Jessica Shepherd from Fishers, INIn celebration of Grandma and AuntMy grandmother and aunt are both breast cancer survivors. Erika Burton from Seymour, INIn celebration of Paula RothrockPaula is my mother, and a beautiful woman. While on vacation in Florida celebrating her 50th birthday, a lump was found on her breast. Being an RN and very accustomed to self exams, she thought if felt like a fibrous tumor. An appointment with her physician was set up for when she returned home. Her physician felt the same way about the fibrous tumor, but to be on the safe side scheduled a biopsy. On December 15, 2008-her 7th anniversary of graduating from nursing school, she received the phone call that changed her life and the life of many other. She had breast cancer. Immediately a bilateral mastectomy and reconstruction was scheduled. About a month later she was operated on. Success, they got all the cancer and all the tests from that point on were normal. My mom returned to work one week after her surgery was complete. She is an inspiration to myself and to everyone who meets her. I am so thankful that everything came out ok because I would be lost without my mom, even though I am 30 years old. I will be walking with my mom, our family and her friends with the ED Breast Buddies. Think Pink and Feel the Boobies!!
Janet Dixon from LadogaIn celebration of My friend Rose HartmanMy friend Rose is currently fighting a terrible battle with breast cancer. She is truly an inspiration to all. She always has a smile on her face and a very positive attitude, you would never know the physical and mental pain she feels. If it were not for the bandana on her head you would not know of the gruling disease that has taken over her body. The cancer has spread to her hips and legs. She and I have walked the Susan G Komen Race for several years and she says she will walk it this year again. We will be there rain or shine, warm or cold, we have walked in it all. And if she can't walk I will be pushing her in a chair. Please pray for my friend Rose.

When I was younger I didn't know anyone with cancer. And now, there are so many people I know that have either got cancer and beat it or that have past away.
Jean E. Smith from Indianapolis, INIn celebration of Kamryn & Kennedy My reason for walking is very simple. I, like many other people in Indy, know of others who have faced breast cancer. I have college friends, my mother's best friend, neighbors, and high school friends whose mothers have battled this horrific disease. But I'm also like so many blessed people who have never been told that they have breast cancer. I've felt like I didn't really have a personal reason to participate in the race. I don't have any family members that thave been diagnosed either...and I want to keep it that way. I have been a volunteer for Susan G. Komen Indianapolis for about 5 yrs and I have generally supported the fight for more than 10 yrs. But 2009 was the first year that I participated in the Race for the Cure. Something "clicked" in me last year as I was pregnant with my second daughter. I realized that I do have a very personal reason to continue my fight for a cure & to participate in the Indy Affiliates largest fundraiser. My husband and I walked last year, will walk this year, and will continue to walk annually for a simple reason: We walk in CELEBRATION OF A CURE SO THAT MY DAUGHTERS, KAMRYN & KENNEDY, WILL NEVER EVER FACE THIS DISEASE!
Janelle DeJonge from Zeeland, MIIn celebration of Grandmother & MotherMy Grandmother is a 10 year survivor of Breast Cancer, my Mother has been in remission since August 2009. Melissa Porter from Indianapolis, INIn celebration of My Grandma, Mary AnnGrandma was diagnosed with breast cancer two times and has had both of her breasts removed. She was diagnosed when I was young. I remember my sister and I laying in the hospital bed with her after each surgery counting her staples and falling asleep with her. When Grandma lost her hair both times, she had my sister draw colorful pictures of butterflies and flowers on her head with Halloween paint. My mom, sister, and I use to take turns going into the room with her when she recieved her therapy. Even though she had breast cancer, she wouldn't show it. She is such a strong, caring, and loving woman. Thanks to her and the support my family gave to her during such a hard time, I believe they all taught me a life lesson; Whatever bad comes into your life, embrace and conquer it. Grandma is healthy as ever now and has been cured for many years. I cherish every moment with everyone in my family. Since breast cancer skips a generation on my mom's side of the family, no one ever knows who it will target next. But if it does come back into our lives, Grandma has gave us the will and drive to take it head on and celebrate life!
